What’s the big deal?

Whenever I tell someone that I recently had open-heart surgery, I can say that the person thinks that I had contracted a heart disease because of my precarious lifestyle. NO!! I do not have heart disease, but I had a congenital bicuspid aortic valve — I WAS BORN WITH IT! Blame it on someone else — even better, your parents! Unfortunately, we do not know which side of my family has it. Guess everyone in my family has to now think about their hearts (Ah!! Reminds me of “Heartbeat! Heartbeat!! Why do you fail me now?“… a song from Wham!!)

When it was discovered nine years back, the cardiologist told me that I could normally carry on working and living. For the past few years, it started showing: I would be out of breath, always tired, and swelling on my legs. Somehow, my heart condition deteriorated so much that it was failing me.

I was in Nepal in May 2019 as my mother had passed away. That’s when my heart gave up, and the doctors warned me that failure to take immediate action might result in heart failure (that means an end to my journey in this materialistic world). So that’s how my heart-wrenching story unfolds. I will tell you about my experiences, struggles, and road to recovery.
