It’s been a while since I wrote for the last time. My last blog on self-evaluation reflected the necessity of creating life goals. I’ve discovered the transformative power of self-evaluation, which I do periodically. This practice has helped me stay on course with my life goals, often interrupted by a few surprises. I acknowledge the strengths and weaknesses that I learned through the self-evaluation process and take full accountability for my actions. Beyond professional growth, self-evaluation has deepened my emotional intelligence, honed my adaptability in an ever-changing world, and nurtured my overall well-being. I’ve curated a self-evaluation tool inspired by several productivity books to assist others on this introspective journey. This tool offers a roadmap to personal growth, helping users recognize achievements and areas of development.
However, the questionnaire lacked the tool to assist with self-evaluation and made the process of answering goal-making cumbersome. Over the past few months, I’ve stayed away from my online presence to embark on a transformative journey. The self-assessment tool, a project currently taking shape in Excel, which will eventually be an app, helps us with the answers we need to develop goals. This was why I stayed offline to focus on the development of the tool.
Taking time off forced me to turn off the distractions and allowed me to introspect and evaluate my strengths and weaknesses while appreciating the immense value of self-assessment. In this fast-paced world, we often consciously avoid pausing and reflecting on our personal and professional growth. I encourage everyone to do this periodically. Some do it quarterly – this totally depends on how much you want to focus on improving and understanding yourself.
Why Self-Assessment Matters:
- Self-awareness: Understanding our strengths, weaknesses, and potential is the first step toward personal development.
- Guided Growth: With clear insights, we can chart a course for improvement in targeted areas.
- Accountability: Self-assessment fosters personal responsibility for our progress.
- Increased Resilience: Recognizing and addressing our areas of improvement helps build resilience against challenges.
The Tool:
I’ve been developing a self-assessment tool to make this introspective process structured and efficient. While still in its Excel form, the goal is to transform it into a user-friendly app that facilitates meaningful self-discovery. The tool has eight categories that I feel are necessary for us to look into for personal growth. The eight categories are Personal relationship, Family relationship, Personal development, Health and fitness, Financial health, Hobbies, Career, and Organization you work at. Each of these has 20 questions that you rate between 0 to 10. The summary sheet provides a snapshot of all categories on one page, which will help you to focus on what needs to be improved. This snapshot will assist in planning your life goals.
The break has been a pivotal time of self-reflection and personal growth. Developing the self-evaluation tool underscores the importance of taking moments to introspect and assess oneself. I urge everyone to undertake self-assessments regularly. Their clarity is priceless in advancing our personal and professional lives. Consider having a partner to guide and support you on this path for added accountability.
While you work on this tool, you may find something missing. Please provide feedback and the areas that I can improve upon. Since the tool has a formula built in, you have to enable the macro. I am not collecting any data.
