Blood and Soil… Blut und Boden… रगत र माटो

What happened in Charlottesville proved that supremacy and racism do exist. That incident, however, raised the question, “if it does exist in Nepal?” It does… my mother fought for her legal status as a Nepalese Citizen (she was married to a Nepali for 49 years and then widow for the next 13 years). She was not accepted as a Nepali – she’ll always be a naturalized citizen, which curtails certain rights. The रास्ट्रबादी (Nationalist) denied her allegiance to Nepal because she could not prover her “Blood and Soil… Blut und Boden… रगत र माटो.” Are we espousing Nazism and denouncing that we, the darker shades of brown, do not have enough credibility of being a “Nepali”? Why do I have to explain each time my mother had a true Nepali soul than that of an Indian? For the Nationalist (you know who they are) who claim to be a “pukka” Nepali, we must prove the relationship of “Blood and Soil… Blut und Boden… रगत र माटो” to Nepal… And this what saw the demise of Nazism, and so will it in Nepal! Please don’t question our nationalism and patriotism just because we speak differently or have darker shades!! Yet we still belong to “Nepal.”
